Vein Treatment Q & A
What is vein treatment?
Vein treatments are procedures dedicated to making sure that you can’t see the veins on the surface of your skin. These treatments are minimally invasive, meaning that you can achieve a drastic reduction in the appearance of blue, purple, or red veins without undergoing surgery or scheduling downtime as you recover.
Vein treatments work on two types of veins:
Spider veins are tiny and level with the surface of your skin. They most often appear on your face and legs, but they can show up anywhere on your body.
Varicose veins are nearly exclusive to your legs, but they can show up in other areas, too. They’re larger than spider veins and take on a lumpy, twisted, and raised appearance.
Why do I need vein treatment?
The good news is that spider veins and varicose veins aren’t harmful to your health by themselves. In some rare cases, they can indicate a health issue. Most of the time, they’re simply an eyesore that you’d rather not show on your skin.
Veins appear on your skin’s surface when the valves inside of them that are responsible for pushing blood up to your heart weaken or give out. As a result, blood pools in your vein and causes it to enlarge. The walls expand until you see it reach or transcend your skin’s surface.
How does vein treatment work?
At Alena Skin Care, Dr. Lakha uses two modes of treatment to minimize spider veins and varicose veins. After an initial consultation where he examines your veins, he chooses the appropriate option:
During sclerotherapy, Dr. Lakha injects a solution directly into the problem vein that causes the walls to thicken, close off, and become scar tissue. Soon, the blood that once flowed through it is rerouted to other nearby veins and you can no longer see a vein on your skin. Spider veins fully disappear in several weeks, while varicose veins take three to four months to vanish.
Laser vein treatment
Dr. Lahka targets your spider or varicose veins with the Icon™ laser. The laser destroys the vein and causes it to slowly disappear over the course of one to three months. You might need multiple sessions for optimal results with a laser.
On your face, legs, or anywhere else, visible veins aren’t a pretty sight. To diminish them or remove them entirely, call Alena Skin Care to book a vein treatment consultation today.
